DIY Garden Ideas And Tips

by Dan R.

Gardening is one of the most relaxing and equally productive hobbies that anyone can enjoy. It is both therapeutic and productive because in the end, fruits and vegetables are produced which can be used to save money. However, gardening is a skill that needs to be learned and we will cover a few DIY garden tips and ideas that will help just about anyone become a better gardener and develop a green thumb.

Many vegetables grow better when they are given water at their roots as opposed to being watered from above. One simple way to do this is to plant empty bottles of water next to the plant, however, make sure that there are holes throughout the bottle. The top of the water bottle should be above ground so that water can be poured into the bottle, which will then leak out through the holes, watering the plants at their roots.

Many people find it difficult to find good quality pots for planting, but this can be easily solved by making pots instead of buying them. All that is required is some concrete and a few large containers. Simply pour the concrete into a large container and then place a smaller one inside and pour the concrete in the space between the two containers. Then, allow to harden and remove the containers which will result in a beautiful and unique pot that will surely add a fantastic aesthetic to any garden.

Garden stones are another garden related project that can be created. All that is needed is some paint, markers and flat river rocks. Paint the stones in the desired color and use the markers to write whatever is desired. For new gardeners, these stones can be used to label different plants and vegetables so that it is easy to identify them.

Many new gardeners spend a lot of money on pesticides and nutrients for the soil. However, this is an extra cost and there are many items in the kitchen that can do the same job even better. For example, egg shells can be used to add calcium to the soil and even repel certain insects. Don’t throw out those egg shells, but instead, crush them and mix them into the soil.

Tomatoes are a popular vegetable that many people enjoy planting at home because they tend to be sweeter than the ones purchased at the market or grocery. However, tomatoes can be made to be even juicier and sweeter by adding baking soda to the soil. Be sure to avoid sprinkling any baking soda on the plant itself, but only on the soil around it. The baking soda is a base, which means that it naturally counteracts the acidity in the tomatoes making them naturally sweeter.

These are just a few DIY garden tips and ideas to get started with. Be sure to take the time to research more tips and apply them in order to produce the best fruits and vegetables possible.
